"Arrivederci" (arrividerci)

When the pictures leaked yesterday, I pinged them over to my Dad, who’s right in the meaty part of the curve for a Boomer and is a current owner. His response?
“Thanks... very different.”
Heh.
Needless to say, I don’t think he’s in the fan camp that many of us (now) are. When I saw the pictures of the camo’d car, I was sure it was going to be at least a $75k base. But under $60k? Wow.
Stylistically - I like everything except for two things:
1) The rear fascia. It’s not bad from every angle except directly behind, where it somehow morphs into being pretty bad
2) The side intakes - they seem both too aggressive and too far forward. I know GM is probably extremely worried about cooling issues, so they might just be necessary, but I think if they were to look a bit less aggressive and be a bit further back on the body that they’d flow better with the design.
Overall - entire package, looks, price, etc... it’s a home run. I think it’ll do extremely well, Boomers be damned.

Already sold, this is why I have been procrastinating on my ZL1 purchase. I was waiting to hear where they were looking to price this and what do you know its exactly where I need it to be. If the boomers are out of the market hopefully it will keep initial markups lower than what they could be.

I hope all the boomers embrace the c8 beccause that would mean c7 values would drop even more and I would be able to afford a Gran Sport before I am in my 60s

I think it’s second half is ugly. No defineable style. A middle schooler trying to draw a fancy lambo . Just my opinion. I love the car, just not how it looks.

What are the odds that this becomes the next Fiero with the MR layout? T his might turn into kit car galore.

I do think they could’ve put more effort into that area of design as well.

Totally agree - I’d love a C7GS. If this helps those tank a bit, I might be getting into one as well. It’s really going to be interesting to see how these sell.

They just it a Camaro rear end on it. Worst example of going for “brand recognition” ever.
They should have styled it after a Fiero anyway.

Usually there are at least a few dealers who don’t mind selling them at MSRP. I’m sure Kerbeck will be one of them, given their reputation within the Corvette community.

The boomers will complain about the c8 until joe down the street gets one, then suddenly they will talk about how it always should have been mid engined :/

It has grown on me A TON. This is why I must keep reminding myself not to judge leaks or camo shots until the real thing is unveiled. I imagine this thing is going to have a serious presence in person too. Can’t wait for that.

It really could! Have you seen the slider on GM’s site for the C8? The structure looks as if you could pretty easily put any body around it.

That would be a glorious/terrible insult to all of GM. If the Vette platform became the base to bolt on fauxarrai panels.

I like the side intakes but the back end is a little too blocky especially with the spoiler.
Mine would be a 2LT Z51 with magneride in Elkhart Lake Blue.

Yea large dealers rarely mark up cars. When the Focus RS came out, the smaller dealers around me (that only got a car or two) were charging way over sticker and wouldn’t allow TDs. I called a huge Ford dealer an hour away. They had 10 but two were under contract already. He did say they weren’t negotiating on them but were selling for sticker.

Yea some guy on the FP said “looks like a Camaro backed into a Pep Boys.”
I like everything but the back end also, but that was funny.

I like it. The pricing thing will be much like the current version, where nobody buys the base model with zero options. Depends on how much the Z51 option costs, but ~$75k should get a very nice example. That’s still dirt cheap for what you get.

I’m really digging the Rapid Blue with the Carbon Flash wheels. The configurator kept bombing out on me so I couldn’t get it finished, but I liked where it was heading.

I really wish I was a person who could find joy driving autos. This car is insane. I believe it’s cheaper than a base c7 with an auto optioned, it looks great, mid engine, and at under 60k it’s going to put the HURT to everyone else making sports cars.
The transmission is the fatal flaw for me, else I'd be a buyer right out of the gate.

Oh yeah, it’ll likely be incredible in person. Call it the Supra effect- the new Supra looks like garbage in pictures, but in real life they look quite nice.

I prefer to row my own as well, but my S3 sold me on dual clutch gearboxes. It still lacks the connection you get with a manual, but the shifts are so fast and so perfect every single time. It’s honestly a little addictive. That said, if I was a C8 buyer and the manual was an option, I’d take it.

LOL - well he wasn’t wrong. I think a subtle lip spoiler and round exhaust tips would go a ways to help it look better to my eye.

$15k in options should net a really special car.
Here’s what the Z51 pack gets you on the C8 :
Michelin® PS4 Performance 3 Season tires †
Standard FE3 Performance Suspension
Available FE4 Suspension with Magnetic Ride Control™
Larger 345 mm front and 350 mm rear brake rotors
Extra cooling with additional rear-mounted third radiator
Electronic Limited-Slip Differential
Larger rear spoiler provides up to 400 lbs. of downforce
Performance exhaust and intake
Here’s what it gets you on the C7 for approximately $3k :
Dry sump oil system
Electronic Limited-Slip Differential
Larger front brakes (13.6 inch vs. 12.6 inch) with black calipers
Specific shocks, springs and stabilizer bars
Differential and transmission cooling
Unique Aero Package that reduces lift for high-speed stability
Michelin ® Pilot ® Super Sport ® ZP summer-only tires † that are aggressively tuned to provide outstanding handling, grip and road-holding capability
Available Magnetic Selective Ride Control ™ and Performance Traction Management
HD cooling
Slotted brake rotors
Performance Gear Ratios
Honestly, the C7 Z51 sounds like a more inclusive package as it adds dry sump , so I’d be surprised if the C8 Z51 package costs more than that $3k.
Working through the configurator a bit more, I’m wondering if Chevy is taking a page out of Porsche’s book - there are lots of standalone options that add up quickly. Now, how do I add leather wrapped air vents?

That’s the thing, I’ve driven dual clutches (and they’re great) bit I’d never actually spend my own money on one. Having a manual is absolutely a deal breaking flaw for me.
(And I’m someone who has been talking big game about buying any car that hits the paper specs the Corvette just did, it was so close to perfection)

I’m betting there will be a lot of nickle-n-diming on the options. Only one “free” paint color, for example. $500 - $1k for most basic colors, $2k for the cool ones.

I wish I was the kind of person who finds Corvettes appealing, because they seem to represent a decent value in terms of price/speed/power. They just always come across as cheap to me and do not age well at all
, and this is no exception. In fact, this is one of the worst looking Corvettes in decades.
I’m blown away by the base pricing (though we all know that realistically the average C8 order will probably be well over $60K once built) but I just can’t get over the overall look/feel of the thing. Feels like someone bought a salvaged 360 or McLaren and put on the ugliest, cheapest body kit they could find. Especially that rear, my word that is bad.
The one thing I can honestly say that I really like is the Stingr
ay badge.

I think after seeing the leaks and camo shots my expectations were really low, because I quite like it aside from the two items I called out in the post above. That rear end is just not very good though.
